TechFlow reports on May 3 that, according to a blog post by Vitalik Buterin, he has proposed enhancing protocol resilience by simplifying the consensus and execution layers. On the consensus layer, the new design will adopt a three-slot finality mechanism, removing concepts such as independent slots and epochs. On the execution layer, Ethereum may replace the existing Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with RISC-V or another simpler virtual machine. Additionally, Ethereum will standardize the use of the same erasure coding, serialization format, and tree structure to further simplify the protocol. Vitalik stated that these improvements will bring the simplicity of Ethereum's core consensus code close to that of Bitcoin.
