TechFlow, April 30 — According to Cointelegraph, the Karnataka High Court in India has ordered the blocking of encrypted email service Proton Mail. Citing the Information Technology Act of 2008, the court directed the government to "immediately block" domains associated with Proton Mail. The move follows a complaint filed in January by a New Delhi-based design company alleging that its employees received offensive emails through the service.
Notably, Indian authorities had proposed blocking the service in March 2024 over "fake bomb threats," but the service continued operating in India afterward. Additionally, Proton AG, the Swiss parent company of the platform, provided user data to Spanish authorities in 2024, raising concerns among privacy advocates about the data security of the centralized service.
