TechFlow news, April 30 — According to Cryptonew, Russia's Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring) is pushing to classify illegal cryptocurrency mining as a criminal offense. The proposal has already gained support from the Russian Ministry of Finance, the central bank, and key lawmakers.
German Neglyad, Deputy Head of Rosfinmonitoring, said the agency plans to impose both administrative and criminal penalties on violators. Currently, mining bans in Russia are only enforced during winter months in nine regions, and offenders can only be prosecuted for electricity theft or improper use of subsidized power, resulting in limited punitive measures.
