TechFlow news, April 28 — According to The Block, Ethereum researcher Dankrad Feist published an Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP-9698) on Sunday, suggesting a gradual 100-fold increase in Ethereum's gas limit over four years. The proposal introduces a "deterministic gas limit growth plan," which would begin in June 2025 and increase the limit by 10 times every two years, ultimately raising the gas limit from the current 36 million to 3.6 billion. If successfully implemented, Ethereum's mainnet could theoretically handle up to 2,000 transactions per second, significantly enhancing base-layer performance. Feist acknowledged this might put pressure on less-optimized nodes but believes the incremental growth will give node operators and developers sufficient time to adapt. Additionally, Ethereum researchers have proposed in another EIP (EIP-7935) to raise the gas limit to 150 million later this year via the Fusaka hard fork.
