TechFlow news, April 18 — According to Jinshi Data, the Trump administration is seeking to move California Governor Newsom's legal challenge against the U.S. tariff plan from a federal court in San Francisco to the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York. Lawyers from the Department of Justice filed a request on Thursday to transfer the case out of Newsom's home jurisdiction, arguing that the trade court holds "exclusive jurisdiction" over disputes related to tariffs.
Earlier reports indicate that Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta jointly sued the president, attempting to block Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose broad tariffs on countries including Mexico and Canada. Newsom and Bonta cited harms to California consumers and businesses, particularly in agriculture and entertainment industries. Measured by economic output, California ranks as the “world’s fifth-largest economy.” Trump’s tariff policy faces at least three other legal challenges, with two complaints filed by a conservative legal advocacy group representing small businesses, and a third brought by members of the Blackfeet Nation in Montana.
