TechFlow news, April 18 — According to Cointelegraph, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov signed a constitutional bill authorizing the launch of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot project and granting "digital som" legal tender status.
Under the bill, the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic gains exclusive rights to issue the digital som, establish rules for its issuance and circulation, and supervise the digital currency operating platform. Testing of the digital som platform is expected this year, but the final decision on whether to formally launch it will not be made until the end of 2026.
