TechFlow, April 15 — According to IBTimes, five small U.S. businesses have filed a lawsuit at the U.S. Court of International Trade, challenging President Trump's recent broad import tariff policy. Represented by the nonpartisan organization Center for Freedom and Justice, the lawsuit accuses Trump of overstepping his authority, unlawfully seizing Congress's power to levy taxes, and questions the rationale for treating trade deficits as a national emergency. The plaintiff businesses, from various states and industries—including a New York alcoholic beverage importer and a Vermont bicycle apparel brand—claim they are already suffering severe financial pressure due to the tariffs. The suit requests the court to block enforcement of the tariffs and affirm that the president lacks unilateral authority to impose such measures. The White House argues these tariffs aim to protect American businesses and workers and address long-standing trade imbalances.
