TechFlow, April 14 — According to Decrypt, a new study led by Harvard University has found that harmful air pollutants generated by Bitcoin mining can cross state borders and affect areas far from the mining sites. The study shows that between August 2022 and July 2023, approximately 1.9 million Americans were exposed to these fine particulate matters, with affected regions including New York City, the Houston/Austin metropolitan areas, northeastern Texas, and the Illinois/Kentucky border region. Researchers say this "interstate pollution" creates regulatory blind spots and recommend that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency implement a "Good Neighbor" rule to strengthen controls on emissions from upwind-state power plants. Meanwhile, during his campaign, Trump expressed support for the cryptocurrency industry, stating he wants "all Bitcoin produced in the United States," raising environmental concerns about the ecological consequences.
