TechFlow news, April 12 — According to Fortune, more than a dozen former OpenAI employees filed a legal brief on Friday supporting co-founder Elon Musk's lawsuit aiming to preserve the company's nonprofit status. Last year, Musk sued OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, accusing OpenAI of deviating from its founding mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity rather than corporate profit. OpenAI and Altman have denied these allegations. In documents submitted Friday to a federal court, the former employees stated that stripping the nonprofit entity of control would "fundamentally undermine" the company's mission by removing its oversight over the for-profit development arm. The former employees, who held technical and leadership roles at the company, said nonprofit oversight is crucial to the company's overall strategy, and this structure also aids recruitment, as many employees were motivated to join by the nonprofit mission.
