TechFlow news, April 8 — According to Jinshi Data, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent stated that the Trump administration is open to reaching agreements on lowering tariffs and denied that market sell-offs had prompted the White House to change its approach. Reports suggesting that Bessent visited Trump in Florida over the weekend to urge him to adjust his messaging on tariffs were rejected by Bessent himself.
"I would say negotiations are the result of a large number of incoming calls to negotiate," he said. "This has nothing to do with the markets." Bessent added, "I think you'll see some countries with massive trade deficits step up very quickly. If they come to the table with credible proposals, I think we can ultimately reach some good deals." He also noted that even if agreements are reached, certain tariffs might remain unchanged.
