TechFlow news, April 8 — According to Politico, President Trump said Monday that the EU must commit to purchasing $350 billion worth of American energy in order to receive U.S. tariff relief. He rejected European Commission President von der Leyen's proposal for "zero tariffs" on cars and industrial goods, calling it insufficient to address the $350 billion trade deficit between the U.S. and Europe. Trump emphasized that the EU could eliminate this deficit "within a week" by buying American energy, and criticized non-monetary trade barriers set by the EU that hinder American products from entering European markets. Previously, Trump imposed a 20% tariff on the EU, triggering sharp declines in global financial markets.
