TechFlow news, April 4 — According to Cointelegraph, Lee Sang-jun, former CEO of Bithumb Holdings currently serving a prison sentence, received approximately 4.7 billion South Korean won (about $3.5 million) in compensation in 2024, including a 2 billion won ($1.4 million) bonus, 2.2 billion won ($1.5 million) severance payment, and 470 million won ($320,000) in base salary.
A Bithumb spokesperson stated that the compensation was paid due to Lee's key role in establishing foundational corporate systems and improving customer asset protection.
Lee Sang-jun was found guilty in December 2024 for accepting luxury gifts and benefits in exchange for listing tokens. While prosecutors accused him of receiving 30 billion won (about $20 million) in cash, the court acquitted him on that charge but upheld guilty verdicts related to other forms of bribery. He was sentenced to two years in prison and fined approximately 50 million won ($37,000).
