TechFlow, April 1 — According to Russian media Kommersant, the Russian government plans to implement a complete ban on cryptocurrency mining in southern Irkutsk Oblast starting April 1. The ban will remain in effect until 2031. The current total mining load in the region is approximately 647 megawatts.
Irkutsk Oblast Governor Igor Kobzev stated that energy consumption in the region has increased by 28% over the past five years, and it is projected that the region could face an energy deficit of 2.9 gigawatts by 2030.
