TechFlow news, on March 27, according to Jinshi Data, the number of new people applying for unemployment benefits in the United States declined last week, while the unemployment rate appears to have remained stable in March. Low layoff rates have offset the impact of a significant slowdown in hiring, keeping the labor market on solid footing and the economic expansion on track. However, Trump's aggressive trade policies, along with ambitious plans to drastically reduce the size of the federal government through deep spending cuts and large-scale layoffs, have cast a shadow over the economy.
Although there has been no significant increase in unemployment claims among federal government workers, applications have risen in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area—including parts of neighboring Maryland and Virginia.
This likely reflects layoffs among contractors and others reliant on government funding. A survey released Tuesday by The Conference Board showed slightly improved consumer sentiment about the labor market in March, and economists expect the unemployment rate to remain stable at 4.1% this month.
