TechFlow news, on March 17, according to Cointelegraph, Marla Maples, former wife of ex-U.S. President Donald Trump, publicly voiced support for dropping the prosecution against early Bitcoin advocate Roger Ver.
On March 16, Maples shared a video on social platform X calling for dismissal of the charges against Ver, tagging Trump, Elon Musk, and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi in her post.
The U.S. Department of Justice charged Ver in April 2024 with mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns, alleging he concealed the amount of Bitcoin he held when renouncing U.S. citizenship in 2014 and defrauded the IRS by failing to report gains from Bitcoin sales, costing approximately $48 million.
Several prominent figures have now called for an end to the prosecution of Ver, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and "Silk Road" creator Ross Ulbricht. Ver has previously appealed to Trump for a pardon, claiming he is a victim of a "legal war."
