TechFlow news — On March 2, according to Jinshi Data, a spokesperson for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) said that the Trump administration has fired a group of tech-savvy civil servants who helped build the free tax-filing service for the Internal Revenue Service and revamped websites across government agencies.
Thomas Shedd, director of GSA's Technology Transformation Services, informed employees of the digital service team 18F that their positions had been terminated after being classified as "non-critical." Approximately 90 18F staff members were immediately blocked from accessing their equipment.
Earlier this month, Musk, who leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team, responded on social media platform "X" to a post describing 18F as a "far-left computing office within government," stating the team had been "deleted."
The Washington Post reported Saturday that officials from Musk’s team have expressed interest in using individual tax records to examine federal benefit payments for potential fraud.
