TechFlow news — On February 27, according to BTCTN, Brazil's central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot project DREX has encountered a major obstacle. Official reports indicate that a critical component—privacy protection—is missing from the implementation of this CBDC.
Despite testing three potential solutions, none have succeeded in balancing transaction privacy with regulatory requirements. While these technologies can hide transaction details from third parties, they also hinder regulators' ability to monitor fraud and compliance.
The Central Bank of Brazil emphasized that without the capability to review transactions, the security and integrity of the DREX platform could be compromised. As the project moves into a new pilot phase, resolving privacy issues remains the top priority before considering any new proposals.
