TechFlow reports that on February 19, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin responded to the question of whether today's Ethereum should resemble Bitcoin more closely or aim to be a "world computer." He stated that a simple test for whether a blockchain is truly decentralized is: if the foundation disappeared, could the blockchain continue to operate? Currently, only Bitcoin and Ethereum can clearly answer yes.
Vitalik pointed out that Ethereum has achieved a high degree of decentralization, with most development work taking place outside the foundation and client teams maintaining independent business models. He emphasized that sacrificing decentralization and resilience in pursuit of higher TPS (transactions per second) is a serious mistake. He also clarified that the true meaning of a "world computer" lies in enabling interoperability among applications, rather than hosting all global applications. This characteristic can coexist with digital currency properties, and both rely fundamentally on decentralization.
