TechFlow reported on February 18, according to The Block, that Russian power grid company Rosseti Group disclosed losses exceeding 1.3 billion rubles (approximately $14.2 million) in 2024 due to illegal cryptocurrency mining. The North Caucasus region suffered the largest loss, exceeding 600 million rubles, while Novosibirsk region lost 400 million rubles.
The company has investigated 130 cases of unauthorized connections and electricity theft, with the largest case occurring in Novosibirsk, involving 3,200 mining devices and causing a loss of 197 million rubles. Currently, over 40 cases are being prosecuted under the Russian Criminal Code.
