TechFlow reported on February 11, citing CNN, that although Republicans have publicly expressed support for President Trump and Musk's plan to reduce federal government personnel, some Republican lawmakers are voicing concerns over measures that could undermine Congress's authority over the federal budget.
The report noted that certain Republican lawmakers have begun taking action: Nebraska Representative Don Bacon called for line-by-line audits of the federal government rather than sweeping eliminations. Minnesota Representative Pete Stauber and Texas Representative Pete Sessions held private meetings with representatives from federal employee labor unions.
Notably, while federal government employees are primarily concentrated in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, approximately 80% of federal workers are distributed across other regions nationwide, meaning the impact of government reform initiatives extends far beyond the capital region.
