TechFlow reported on February 10, according to Bitcoin.com, that Newport City Council in Wales plans to permanently close and seal a landfill site during 2025-26. The landfill contains a hard drive accidentally discarded by IT engineer James Howells in 2013, which holds 7,500 bitcoins worth approximately $750 million at current prices. The council intends to convert part of the site into a solar power farm to supply energy for its municipal electric vehicle fleet.
Previous report: Howells' legal bid to search for the hard drive was rejected by a Welsh court.
