TechFlow reports that on February 8, the parents of the late OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji filed a lawsuit against the City and Police Department of San Francisco, challenging the official ruling of suicide and asserting that their son's death was murder. The lawsuit claims that police labeled the case a suicide without conducting a thorough investigation. According to court documents, a forensic expert hired by the family found a gunshot wound on the victim’s forehead with an unusual bullet trajectory, as well as bruising on the back of his head. Notably, Balaji had disclosed in a New York Times interview that he helped the company use vast amounts of internet data without permission during his time at OpenAI. His body was discovered one week after The New York Times mentioned this whistleblower in its lawsuit filing.
