TechFlow news, on February 7, The Washington Post reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter, that a team from Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency is using artificial intelligence (AI) software to analyze sensitive data from the U.S. Department of Education as part of an investigation into the department's spending. This data includes information that could identify personnel managing grants, as well as internal, sensitive financial records.
The Department of Government Efficiency team is using AI software provided through Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to review every dollar distributed by the Department of Education, including contracts, grants, and travel expenses. While Azure offers AI tools developed by multiple companies, it is currently unclear which specific software the department is using.
