TechFlow news, February 6 — According to Coindesk, Caroline Pham, acting chair of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), said that the CFTC will convene an expert roundtable to reexamine its regulatory stance on prediction markets.
Pham noted that although she has consistently opposed former Chair Rostin Behnam's aggressive enforcement approach toward prediction markets, the current regulatory trajectory is no longer easily reversible. She emphasized that anti-innovation policies over the past several years have severely constrained the CFTC’s ability to shift toward common-sense regulation, and that there is currently legal uncertainty surrounding the interpretation of event contracts. The upcoming roundtable aims to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework to foster the development of prediction markets while protecting retail customers from fraud.
