TechFlow news: According to TechCrunch, citing Bloomberg Law, Microsoft is investigating DeepSeek's use of OpenAI's API.
Microsoft security researchers claim that in autumn 2024, DeepSeek may have used OpenAI's API to steal large amounts of data for training its R1 reasoning model.
OpenAI's terms of service explicitly prohibit users from using API outputs to train competing models or for programmatic data extraction. As OpenAI's largest shareholder, Microsoft has notified OpenAI of this suspicious activity. The matter could face legal consequences.
