TechFlow news — According to TechCrunch, former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said his new startup Gloo has begun using DeepSeek's open-source AI inference model R1 and decided against adopting OpenAI's paid services. He expects that within two weeks, Gloo will rebuild its AI service Kallm entirely on open-source foundational models.
Gelsinger noted that DeepSeek’s training costs are 10 to 50 times lower than those of GPT-3.5, demonstrating that advancements in AI can be driven by engineering innovation rather than solely relying on hardware computing power. He emphasized that DeepSeek will make high-quality AI services more accessible and widely deployable across various embedded devices such as smart rings, hearing aids, smartphones, and electric vehicles.
