TechFlow reports, on January 27, according to Cointelegraph, Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) ordered Tools for Humanity (TFH), the operator of the iris-scanning digital identity project World Network (formerly Worldcoin), to cease offering services to Brazilian citizens effective January 25.
The ANPD stated that offering cryptocurrency as compensation for collecting sensitive biometric data could undermine the validity of user consent. Under Brazilian law, consent for processing sensitive personal data must be freely given, informed, specific, and unambiguous, with a clearly defined purpose. The agency also expressed concerns regarding the sensitive nature of biometric data, the irreversible character of data collection, and the fact that such data cannot be deleted once provided.
