TechFlow reports on January 22 that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Tuesday the U.S. is poised to achieve Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) first, thanks to President Trump's newly launched $500 billion "Stargate" AI infrastructure initiative. He added, "I think this might not have happened under a different president. We’re thrilled to be part of it, and I believe this will be a tremendous benefit for Americans and the entire world."
The initiative is jointly operated by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank. However, Altman also urged markets on social media to "lower expectations by a factor of 100," emphasizing that OpenAI "will not deploy AGI next month." OpenAI’s latest o3 model has passed the ARC-AGI challenge test, which is considered a significant benchmark in AGI development. Altman stated the company is already looking ahead to research on superintelligence beyond AGI. Yet AI researcher François Chollet pointed out that passing the ARC-AGI test does not equate to achieving AGI, noting that the o3 model still shows clear limitations on simple tasks.
