TechFlow news, on January 22, the Ethereum restaking protocol EigenLayer announced that the Rewards v2 protocol upgrade has gone live on the mainnet. As the first EigenLayer Improvement Proposal (ELIP-001), this upgrade was proposed and executed through the governance process (EigenGov) recently announced by the Eigen Foundation.
Rewards v2 introduces three core features: 1) Operator-directed reward mechanism, allowing AVS to distribute rewards based on operator performance or custom logic; 2) Variable operator fee rates, enabling operators to set independent fees for different AVS, enhancing economic flexibility; 3) Batch reward claiming, allowing stakers and operators to claim multiple rewards in a single transaction, effectively reducing gas costs.
This upgrade adopts an incremental approach and will not affect the normal operation of existing AVS and operator contracts. However, users relying on Eigen Sidecar to view, audit, or verify reward data need to update their software to version v2.0.0.
