TechFlow reports that on January 15, Cannes Mayor David Lisnard announced on his LinkedIn account the city's initiative to enable local merchants to adopt cryptocurrency payment systems. He also revealed that the 8th Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) will be held from June 30 to July 3, 2025.
The municipal government will offer training for local merchants at the Palais des Festivals on February 4, covering technical, legal, accounting, and tax aspects of crypto payments, and plans to release a "crypto-friendly" merchant map. As a three-time World Capital of Festivals, Cannes expects this year's EthCC to attract over 6,500 registered participants and up to 10,000 attendees overall, with 300 parallel events. Lisnard's move is widely seen as positioning for the 2027 French presidential election.
