TechFlow reported on January 15, according to Reuters, that sources familiar with the matter said Republican commissioners Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) plan to launch reforms on cryptocurrency policy immediately after Trump's inauguration. Paul Atkins, a crypto-friendly nominee appointed by Trump, will succeed current chair Gary Gensler and is expected to end previous stringent regulatory enforcement.
The new leadership may re-examine existing litigation cases, pause certain non-fraud enforcement actions, and initiate rulemaking procedures to clarify the criteria for determining whether cryptocurrencies qualify as securities.
