TechFlow news, January 13 — According to Politico, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has called on President-elect Donald Trump to intervene and stop the European Union's antitrust fines against U.S. tech companies. Speaking on Joe Rogan's podcast, Zuckerberg said the EU has fined American tech firms over $30 billion in the past two decades, describing these penalties as "almost like tariffs," and criticized the Biden administration for failing to effectively respond.
Zuckerberg argued that the strength of American tech companies represents a strategic national advantage, and that the incoming administration should take steps to protect these firms from overseas restrictions. He also suggested that Meta’s recent decisions to end third-party fact-checking programs and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives might align with policy directions favored by the Trump administration.
