TechFlow news, on January 8, according to the Korea Economic Daily, South Korean prosecutors have added charges against a woman in her 30s. The woman is suspected of operating an illegal cryptocurrency gambling website in Thailand, with additional allegations including concealment of criminal proceeds and filing false accusations.
Between April 2018 and August 2021, her website received over 24,000 bitcoins (worth $2.3 billion) from users, including South Koreans, offering gambling based on predicting Bitcoin price movements. She was initially sentenced to five years in prison for operating illegal gambling and money laundering; after appeal, her sentence was reduced by half to 2.5 years. The case is currently awaiting a ruling from South Korea's Supreme Court.
