As the new leader of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre is preparing to compete with current Prime Minister Trudeau for the position of Prime Minister in Canada's 2025 federal election. Poilievre has been an outspoken supporter of Bitcoin. He has publicly stated, "I want to make Canada the center of blockchain in the world," and pledged that during his term as Prime Minister, he would dismiss the central bank governor, audit central bank activities, and halt the development of a central bank digital currency (CBDC). At a campaign event in March 2022, Poilievre used Bitcoin to purchase a shawarma. He has made numerous statements supporting cryptocurrencies, including a 2022 post where he promised "buyers and sellers have the right to freely choose Bitcoin and other technologies."
According to Polymarket data, the current prediction market for "Canada's next Prime Minister" shows candidate Pierre Poilievre with an 88% support rate.
