TechFlow reported on January 7 that Jesse Pollak, lead of the Base protocol, replied on X to Solana co-founder Toly, stating: "I don't view the relationship between Base and Ethereum as zero-sum competition. Base and other L2s are effectively executing Ethereum's roadmap—we've collectively worked toward this for over five years. If Base grows, Ethereum grows.
Will Ethereum’s transaction acceptance rate on L2 be lower than on L1? Yes, absolutely. But when we’re in what may be the greatest growth opportunity in human history, will that acceptance rate remain where it is today? I doubt it—I expect it to rise—but it will still remain below 100%. Should L1 also increase capacity? Yes, that would be great too!
We can all win. Building together is 100 times more interesting and 100 times more likely to succeed than tearing each other down through zero-sum competition. That said, I do understand how useful it is for you to drive us to compete against one another. The more we compete, the less focused we become on working together across multiple layers to build the best possible version of Ethereum. My goal is to make sure that doesn’t happen. Let’s empower each other, stick to the fundamentals, and keep building."
