TechFlow news, January 6 — According to CoinDesk, Canada's two major newspapers, The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail, reported in succession that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is about to resign. The Toronto Star expects the resignation announcement as early as Monday, while The Globe and Mail predicts it will be announced by Wednesday. However, users on the betting platform Polymarket remain divided over whether Trudeau will step down ahead of schedule.
According to Polymarket's prediction market, the likelihood of a resignation on Monday stands at only 24%, rising to 72% by Wednesday, and reaching as high as 80% by Friday. The most heavily bet contract is on Trudeau resigning before this Friday, which has already attracted six-figure funding. Additionally, Reuters reported that Trudeau has not yet made a final decision on his resignation. Meanwhile, polling data from Angus Reid indicates Trudeau’s approval rating stands at just 22%. If an election were held immediately, his Liberal Party would win only 46 seats, while the Conservative Party could secure 225 seats, easily achieving a parliamentary majority.
