TechFlow news, December 23 — According to Cointelegraph, a batch of data containing sensitive information of cryptocurrency conference attendees is currently circulating on the market. These attendee lists may include full names, phone numbers, nationalities, job roles, company affiliations, personal and corporate social media links. Some lists even contain ticket purchase dates, ticket types, operating systems used during purchase, number of social media followers, cryptocurrency wallet addresses, and additional text entered by attendees in fields provided to event organizers.
Cointelegraph obtained a "sample" of such lists via Telegram from a seller, including four separate lists with approximately 60 to 100 participants each, seemingly sourced from multiple events, with each list containing different data points per attendee. One seller claimed access to attendee lists from multiple countries, indicating that the international trade in blockchain event participant data is not isolated but systematic.
Notably, investigations suggest the data sellers are likely based in Russia. The sellers claim the data will be used for "marketing outreach and customer acquisition," and even attempt to justify selling what they call "non-leaked" data, arguing it is "not sensitive information" and that "most people are open to this kind of marketing."
