TechFlow reports that on December 17, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Washington announced the successful recovery of cryptocurrency assets in a business email compromise (BEC) case. The case involved multiple real estate transaction frauds in which scammers infiltrated systems and altered wire transfer instructions, with individual losses ranging from $75,000 to $425,000. Law enforcement swiftly seized approximately 32.68 bitcoins (worth about $900,000 at the time) from the fraudster’s cryptocurrency wallet located in Nigeria. Due to Bitcoin’s price increasing more than threefold, ten victims are expected to receive full compensation.
