TechFlow news, December 15 — According to News.bitcoin, Dogecoin recently suffered a vulnerability attack dubbed "Dogereaper," severely impacting its node infrastructure. Andreas Kohl, a developer at Sequentia, managed to crash 69% of Dogecoin nodes using just an old laptop from El Salvador.
Although this attack significantly affected Dogecoin nodes, the situation could have been far worse: ecash developers Tobias Ruck and Roqqit first discovered the vulnerability while developing Doged, an alternative to Dogecoin Core. While porting code for their replacement software, they identified an unpatched segmentation fault in the original codebase and disclosed the vulnerability. Tobias Ruck explained: "We put in significant effort to ensure network security. This attack could have been much more severe, but all key stakeholders—such as miners and exchanges—had already patched the issue before the attack occurred, demonstrating how crucial it is to proceed with caution."
