TechFlow news — On December 13, EigenLayer released its second EigenLayer Improvement Proposal (ELIP-002): Slashing, on social media platforms. This ELIP introduces a slashing mechanism to the EigenLayer protocol to strengthen cryptographic-economic commitments and provide AVSs (Actively Validated Services) with tools to innovate and reward high-quality service operators.
The proposed slashing mechanism integrates two new concepts introduced by Eigen Labs: Unique Stake and Operator Sets, enabling AVSs to penalize operators who fail to meet their commitments (such as computational errors or liveness issues). Unique Stake ensures that each AVS has exclusive access to a distinct pool of slashable stake, reducing systemic risk. Operator Sets allow AVSs to segment tasks and operators for improved accountability and more effective reward distribution.
