TechFlow news, December 6 — According to the Financial Times, OpenAI is discussing plans to remove its "AGI" clause as it seeks to unlock billions of dollars in future investment. Under current terms, Microsoft's rights to use the technology would expire once OpenAI achieves AGI—defined as a "highly autonomous system that outperforms humans at most economically valuable work." The determination of when AGI has been achieved rests with OpenAI’s board.
According to several people familiar with the matter, the startup is considering removing this provision from its corporate structure so that the large tech company can continue investing and using all of OpenAI’s technologies even after AGI is achieved. They added that the board has not yet made a final decision and is currently evaluating various options.
