TechFlow news, on November 22, according to Cointelegraph, CFTC Commissioner Summer Mersinger spoke at the North American Blockchain Summit, calling for the establishment of cryptocurrency regulatory policies through formal notice-and-comment procedures. Mersinger stated that the current "regulation by enforcement" approach toward the crypto industry poses issues, specifically citing the case of Uniswap Labs. She emphasized that the CFTC is the "ideal regulator for the cryptocurrency spot market," as it can swiftly implement significant legislative changes without disrupting market operations.
Mersinger pointed out that while crypto entities—including decentralized finance (DeFi)—are often categorized under existing frameworks and required to comply with the same laws, there is currently no formal registration pathway available. She advised the crypto industry to initiate outreach immediately after the new administration's leadership is confirmed, in order to foster early dialogue. Notably, the CFTC’s recent settlement amount with Uniswap was relatively small, reflecting a subtle shift in regulatory stance.
