TechFlow news, on November 4, according to Protos, Hamster Kombat, a once-popular "tap-to-earn" game on the Telegram platform, has recently suffered massive user attrition. The game's active user count has plummeted from 300 million in August to around 41 million currently, losing nearly 260 million players within three months—a staggering 86% decline. Since its launch on September 26 at a high of $0.009993, Hamster Kombat’s token HMSTR has dropped 76%, now trading at just $0.002392.
Despite Telegram CEO's earlier praise of Hamster Kombat as the "fastest-growing digital service in the world," and his claim that it would lead a new generation of mini-apps bringing blockchain technology to the masses, the reality has proven otherwise. The game’s crude AI-generated art style and monotonous gameplay clearly failed to retain its vast user base.
In addition, Hamster Kombat has faced significant controversy over repeated delays in token airdrops and unfair disqualifications of players. Reports indicate that 2.3 million users have been banned and 6.8 billion HMSTR tokens confiscated. These contentious actions have sparked strong backlash among players in regions such as Nigeria, with most users only able to sell their HMSTR tokens for single-digit prices after prolonged gameplay.
