TechFlow news, October 29 — According to The New York Times, Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City and founder of Bloomberg LP, recently donated approximately $50 million to nonprofit organizations supporting Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential campaign, following sustained lobbying by tech leaders including Bill Gates, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and investor Ron Conway.
The funds went to Future Forward, Harris’s primary super political action committee, according to four people familiar with the matter. Bloomberg, 82, who has a net worth of $105 billion, had previously contributed $47 million to Democratic causes in this election cycle—second only to investor and philanthropist George Soros, making him the party’s second-largest individual donor so far. The additional donation was initially intended to remain confidential but was ultimately disclosed by media outlets. Two sources also said Bloomberg recently spoke privately with Harris.
Data shows Bloomberg’s publicly reported political contributions in this election cycle amount to $47 million, less than half of the $95 million he gave during the 2018 midterm elections to help Democrats regain control of Congress. This giving pattern aligns with Bloomberg’s longstanding strategy: exercising restraint early in an election cycle and then investing heavily during the final stretch.
