TechFlow news, on October 25, OpenZeppelin, a smart contract security company, announced receiving significant funding from the Ethereum Foundation. The company plans to use these funds to enhance ERC-4337-based account abstraction functionality within its OpenZeppelin Contracts library.
Since 2016, OpenZeppelin has been the go-to choice for smart contract development, securing transactions worth trillions of dollars. This funding will enable OpenZeppelin to achieve several key objectives:
-
Add modular ERC-4337 implementations to advance account abstraction technology, helping developers build more secure applications and more flexible smart wallets.
-
Introduce new cryptographic signature schemes such as secp256r1, BLS, and RSA, expanding cryptographic support to make it easier to build applications suitable for mobile devices, enterprises, and other scenarios.
-
Enhance developer tools related to ERC-4337, including Foundry, Hardhat, and Contracts Wizard, simplifying the creation, customization, and upgrading processes for accounts and paymasters.
-
Roll out these new features in two major releases during 2024 and 2025, significantly improving the security, usability, and scalability of the Ethereum ecosystem.
