TechFlow news, October 22 — According to Decrypt, Alcon Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against Tesla and Warner Bros. Discovery, accusing them of using imagery from the 2017 film "Blade Runner 2049" without authorization to create visual effects for Tesla's autonomous vehicle, the Cybercab event. Alcon alleges that Tesla used these images earlier this month to produce new visuals promoting the Cybercab launch.
One day before the Cybercab event, Tesla and Warner Bros. Discovery — which distributed the "Blade Runner" sequel and hosted the event at its Burbank studio lot — requested permission from Alcon Entertainment to use stills from the movie. However, Alcon rejected the request, citing concerns about associating with Elon Musk (whom they referred to as a "problematic figure"), Tesla, or any of his other companies.
Alcon claims that after being denied, Tesla used an AI image generator to create similar-looking visuals. The company is now seeking unspecified damages, stating that the incident has caused financial harm to its negotiation position and future projects.
