TechFlow news, on October 21, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin replied to a comment regarding "Zuzalu, the Apecoin governance forum, and Arbitrum DAO's gatekeeping level," stating: "Technically, any currency is permissioned—you need permission from an existing holder to become a holder. This suggests there's actually a continuous spectrum of permission levels between Apecoin and ZuVillage, and we can imagine intermediate structures: becoming a member requires approval from multiple existing members, yet it remains highly open. For instance, you could envision a quadratic funding-style mechanism where existing members' scores are weighted to accumulate membership points. This is what I'd like to see in OP Citizen House, the Zuzalu community, and other DAOs experimenting in this space. Formalizing and measuring membership is upstream of any formal governance; it would be really cool if there were more ways to achieve highly decentralized and permissionless formal membership that isn't just token ownership."
