TechFlow reports that on September 25, Polkadot community member Eric Holst disclosed on LinkedIn all of Polkadot's marketing expenses during Token2049, totaling $387,772, including:
-
$199,500 for event sponsorship, $100,000 allocated to a 36-square-meter booth (with $70,000 intended for airport billboard advertising, which did not occur), $25,000 for lead generation activities, $20,000 covering travel costs for 8–10 staff members, $10,000 spent on merchandise (including 300 T-shirts, 180 pairs of flip-flops, 200 fans, 180 hats, and a Lionel Messi jersey from Inter Miami), $5,000 for photography and videography, and the remainder on miscellaneous items.
Holst stated that the funding came from the Events Bounty and OpenGov treasury, approved via DAO community voting. Regarding whether the nearly half-million-dollar investment was worthwhile, the author said it remains undetermined and is currently preparing a report to analyze the outcomes. LinkedIn shows that Eric Holst works at Distractive, an organization providing core marketing services for the Polkadot network and ecosystem.
