TechFlow reports, on September 13, according to an official blog post, Binance has identified a global malware campaign severely impacting cryptocurrency transactions by altering withdrawal addresses and causing user fund losses. This malware, known as Clipper, primarily targets cryptocurrency wallet addresses, replacing them with attacker-controlled addresses during copy-paste operations.
On August 27, 2024, such malicious activities significantly increased, resulting in substantial financial losses for affected users. The malware mainly spreads through unofficial apps and browser extensions, particularly on Android and web platforms, although iOS users should also remain vigilant.
Binance's security team is taking multiple countermeasures, including blacklisting suspicious addresses, notifying affected users, requesting incident reports, and conducting continuous monitoring. Binance advises users to verify the authenticity of apps and plugins, carefully double-check withdrawal addresses, and stay updated with the latest security announcements to avoid becoming victims.
