TechFlow news: The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has announced the launch of a cross-border investigation into Google Ireland Limited to determine whether Google complied with EU data protection laws during the development of its artificial intelligence models.
The investigation will focus specifically on Google's use of personal data belonging to EU citizens when training its Pathways Language Model 2 (PaLM 2).
PaLM 2 is Google's next-generation AI model, reportedly faster and more efficient than its predecessors. The model comes in four sizes—Gecko, Otter, Bison, and Unicorn—designed for different use cases. Gecko is a lightweight version capable of running offline on mobile devices. Google says it will continue releasing updated versions as PaLM 2 is integrated into various products.
